Condimentum and Unilever, the maker of the iconic Colman’s brand, have held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of Condimentum’s new facility which will continue the historic tradition of mustard milling and mint processing operations in Norwich.

The 25,000 sq ft premises, on the Norwich Food Enterprise Park at Honingham, will house a bespoke mustard mill which will process around 5000 tons of mustard seed annually and will be the only one if its kind in Europe capable of milling double super fine mustard flour. A brand new mint line will also be installed which will mill over 1000 tons of fresh mint leaf each year for Colman’s mint sauce.

Parent company Unilever, which employs 113 people at the factory, revealed in January plans to shut it down.

Unilever said it plans to open a new milling facility near Norwich for the production and packing of Colman’s mustard powder.
